May 6–12 is National Nurses Week! This year’s theme is “Nurses: Inspire, Influence, Innovate.” To celebrate, we are recognizing six nurses, nominated by the Sunrise Care team, who demonstrate these virtues in our communities every day.

Stacey Handy is the resident care director at Sunrise on Hillcrest, TX. She has worked in senior living for six years, and she joined the Sunrise team in June of 2017. Stacey has been selected as a nurse who innovates—makes changes in established processes by introducing new methods or ideas.

Stacey is great at thinking outside the box to help ensure that new and existing residents are comfortable in their home. This positive, creative thinking has had a tremendous positive impact on the culture of the community.

She does her job with a calm confidence, helping to provide stability and comfort to team members and residents.

“Stacey came in with this quiet assurance that continues to this day,” says Kim Bracken, regional director of Resident Care. “She inspires her team and has created such positive changes that can be seen as soon as you walk into the community.”

Stacey collaborates with care managers on a daily basis to help them provide quality care to residents, and she also provides the coaching and positive reinforcement that fellow team members need. She forms close personal relationships with family members, enabling them to feel comfortable with the care of their loved ones.

“I can honestly say that Stacey Handy exemplifies the qualities of Sunrise on a daily basis,” says Tommy Thomas, executive director, Sunrise on Hillcrest. “We at Hillcrest are fortunate to be able to work with her.”

The entire Sunrise family is grateful for the tireless dedication and innovative spirit of nurses like Stacey. Thanks for all that you do! Meet the rest of our 2018 Nurses Week winners on The Sunrise Blog.
