Try this turmeric tonic to help fight inflammation the natural way. But first: why should you care about inflammation in the first place?
Researchers continue to solidify the link between inflammation, illness, and disease (1). The good news is that there are some easy ways you can naturally treat and prevent the root cause of inflammation without using pharmaceutical drugs.
Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Tonic
This recipe packs a lot of inflammation-soothing ingredients into a single beverage.
Turmeric has been used for centuries for its anti-inflammatory benefits, among its many other health and healing properties (2).
The key component of turmeric that makes all the difference is curcumin, which influences more than 700 genes, and slows down the activity and synthesis of enzymes that are associated with inflammation.
Black pepper helps your body absorb all that powerful curcumin – specifically, it’s the piperine content in the pepper.
Carrots contain more beta-carotene than any other food. Beta-carotene, an important antioxidant, reduces your risk of developing inflammation-related disorders, and it significantly lowers the oxidative stress in your body (3).
Carrots help with a number of digestive problems as well, as they supply your body with fluid for hydration and replenish your levels of sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sulfur and magnesium (4). The pectin content of carrots helps to line your intestines, which further protects against inflammation.
It does also help that juiced carrots have a great flavor, and even more so when combined with the other ingredients in this recipe.
Ginger doesn’t just provide flavor in this tonic – its gingerol compounds give it powerful anti-inflammatory effects (5).
People who suffer from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis experience improvement in their mobility and much less pain when they consume ginger on a regular basis. It also boosts your natural energy and vitality, is full of antioxidants, and is even beneficial to your libido (6).
Coconut water is more than just a “carrier” liquid in this tonic. Its tannins help reduce inflammation, as well as provide vitamins and minerals.
Not only that, but coconut water features antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. You’ll benefit from regulated blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels, not to mention hydration or rehydration through the potassium and other minerals that it contains. Coconut water also increases your body’s metabolism, helping you with weight management (7).
Tasty Turmeric Tonic
This anti-inflammatory turmeric tonic will tame the inflammation beast and provide lots of micronutrients your body craves.
It’s definitely best to drink it as soon as you’ve made it, but if you can store it in an airtight jar for later. Be sure to fill the jar right to the top, to the point of spilling, before sealing it, because you don’t want any oxygen to tamp down the tonic’s properties. It can last up to 24 hours without losing any of its nutrients.
