This is Black Rice Dessert Recipe is called payasam (a popular dessert in South india) and is without refined, white sugar (replaced with raw cane sugar or jaggery). It is a rice kheer recipe with Jaggery.

Black rice contains Anthocyanin pigment, which gives it its dark colour. Kavuni Arisi is a variety of black Rice grown in Tamilnadu.

Black rice is an Antioxidant food. It is sticky when cooked, and is particularly suitable as a rice kheer recipe with jaggery. The glutenous nature of black rice is NOT WHEAT GLUTEN. So, rice is actually GLUTEN FREE!

  1. I tasted kavuni rice dessert for the first time in my friend’S house in chettinad. Since then it has been one of my best loved dishes.
    Didn’t know it had such a rich history and so many nutritional benefits !
    And yes we did make this dish at home for Tamil new year !
