When you look in the mirror, are you starting to see more fine lines and wrinkles? What about sagging skin around your eyes and jaw line? If you’re looking for ways to combat the signs of aging, you’ve probably considered the amazing results you can get from minimally invasive injectables. But which one should you choose? What’s the difference between Botox and Juvederm, and which product (or products) will be best for your face?

To really understand how you can improve your appearance and get back your youthful good looks with one, the other, or both of these products, we’ll first have to give you a brief overview of each of them and how they work.

The Skinny on Botox

As you most likely already know, Botox is made using a pure form of botulinum A toxin. It works by relaxing the muscles of your face, which automatically lessens the appearance of expression lines caused by smiling, frowning, furrowing your brows, etc. By reducing your ability to make those expressions, Botox also helps prevent more lines from appearing, as well, thereby slowing the aging process to a halt.

The Skinny on Juvederm

Now, Juvederm is a slightly different product. It doesn’t hinder your ability to make different expressions, but it does fill in lines and wrinkles. It also can add volume to your cheekbones and brow, giving your features a more defined appearance while firming up your complexion and getting rid of sagging skin.

Not only does Juvederm smooth out wrinkles by filling them in, but that added volume has a really great anti-aging effect, too. As we age, we lose the subcutaneous and cutaneous fat in our cheeks that gives them a plump, youthful appearance. Juvederm is made up of hyaluronic acid and other ingredients that the body can naturally absorb over time, but that will remain just under your skin for a few months, giving you a youthful, fresh-faced appearance.

Combining the Two

If you really want to get results and turn back time on your face, though, the best “liquid facelift” treatments are those that combine muscle relaxers like Botox with fillers like Juvederm. Imagine, for example, that you’ve developed deep smile lines around your mouth and nose. This is partially due to smiling so much over the years, but it’s also due to your cheeks losing volume and your skin beginning to sag.

A few Botox injections around your mouth and nose will not make it impossible for you to smile, but they will relax those muscles and immediately lessen the depths of your smile lines. Then, when you add Juvederm filler injections to your cheeks, that added volume will pull the excess skin around your mouth and nose back and up. The two products will work together to give you a more youthful appearance immediately.

The same combination can be used to relax and fill in worry lines between your eyebrows, crows’ feet around the corners of your eyes, and creases across your forehead, as well. With Botox and Juvederm working together, you could take years off of your appearance in no time at all.
