Day 7 Beginner Yoga Challenge: Calm and Equanimous Mind


Welcome to Day 7! After six days of practice you can expect to be feeling sore in new places. Take today to focus on the inner journey and cultivate a calm and equanimous mind. Meditation and concentration are part of the journey of yoga. Sit in either a comfortable seated pose or lotus pose, Padmasana, if that’s easy for you. Bring your mind into focus on the breath and cultivate a strong, steady mind. Root your awareness down into your spiritual center and plant the seeds of peace deeply within your heart. Meditation trains the mind just like yoga poses train the body.

Welcome to this One Month Beginner Yoga Challenge. New videos will be posted daily at 9 AM EST during the month of May. Pair these videos perfectly with #MayIBeginYoga2016 to support your daily practice and share on Instagram. Videos will publish on the day before the calendar date to give you time to practice and post on IG. Subscribe, comment, like and share to stay involved in the yoga challenge.

We designed this month’s challenge to be the perfect introduction to yoga, just like a 30 Day Yoga Course, but we want ALL levels to join and share their practice. This is the same challenge as last year so it’s perfect for those who participated to see how far you’ve come!

  1. Is it normal that I cried towards the end of the video, when you said we could talk to a part of our body. I talked to my stomach, I told him he did a fine job carrying our two beautiful children for almost 41 weeks each, and I told him he didn't have to worry about the fact he couldn't give birth naturally and had to have a C-section because our children are fine and healthy, and then I started to cry… Those 9 minutes were like a therapy I think… Amazing and beautiful ! Thank you Kino 🙏

  2. Kino I really appreciate your dedication to help beginners. This challenge has been transforming my body. When I started I couldn't even do downward dog and now I can. It's so important to just relax and be mindful. I can feel the stress melt away. Thank you.

  3. This was super relaxing but I have to admit_ as a transgender person, I found this quite challenging. In a way, this has been the hardest day for me so far. I know that the majority of people watching these videos are not trans and do not share my experience but I still wanted to share anyway. Thank you for this video Kino and I look forward to Day 8

  5. When I started Yoga, I was excited to learn the handstand and do these crazy things but what I realised today that these aspects of yoga only matter in a specific way. What makes me love Yoga, is this inner peace I only feel when I'm listening to infinite music and when there's something beautiful meeting my eye. When I opened my eyes again, the whole world seemed so different to me and these minutes of freedom and acceptance made me feel so majestic. Thank you for this incredible experience.

  6. Thank you so much Kino!!! This challenge inspires me. I seem to avoid Meditation. I'd rather spend time doing your yoga. Slowly slowly I do them. Lotus position does bother my right knee though. Do you perhaps have a few suggestions or tips please. Namaste.

  7. Thank you Kino. To be honest with you, I have been avoiding meditation, because I'd rather spend that time working out. Today has changed that mindset for me. I felt tears rolling down my face as I practiced with you. Thank you for inspiring.

  9. Hi Kino…my wife and I just finished day 7! Your message today was really moving-especially to my wife…she really needed to hear that. We are both appreciating the spiritual aspect. We followed your Yoga for Beginners DVD for 6 months and then kind of stopped for no good reason. We started this challenge and have learned so much. We look forward to continuing the journey and learning about the spiritual aspect. That part was really missing from our practice by ourselves…how can we cultivate this once the 30 days are finished? Your words are really speaking to us right now. Thank you!

    My body isn't perfect, but it is perfect for me. I ask a lot of it and it doesn't (very often) let me down. I appreciate its strength and energy. It was great to take this time to show myself some appreciation and gratitude 😊
    Question: lotus does not bother my knees, but is really uncomfortable for my feet and ankles – do you have any tips or advice please?

  12. My issue isn't with the knees being warm… it's my ankles that prevent me from holding the position! I'm not sure if it's all of the ankle twisting I have done in past sports that prevent them from wanting to move, but they're incredibly stiff. Any suggestions?
